What to Bring on your Summer Trip

Please bring the following labeled items in a soft duffel bag.


ESSENTIALS

  • 1 sleeping bag (pillow optional)
  • 2 or 3 pairs of pants
  • 2-4 pairs of shorts
  • 4 or 5 shirts or tops
  • bottom base layer (long johns)
  • 2 or 3 warm sweaters or sweatshirts
  • 1 pair of socks and underwear for each day
  • sleepwear
  • 1 swimsuit
  • 1 toque or hat
  • gloves (for cool nights and hauling lines)
  • 1 warm jacket
  • rain gear (jacket and pants)
  • 1 pair of shoes suitable for on deck and shore excursions
  • 1 pair of shoes that can get wet (water shoes, waterproof sport sandals, old runners)
  • 1 pair of rubber boots (or deck boots)
  • water bottle
  • towel
  • bio-degradable soap and shampoo
  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • sunscreen (preferably ocean friendly)
  • wristwatch
  • flashlight or headlamp (and spare batteries)
  • plastic bag for wet gear (important)
  • 1 pen, 1 pencil and eraser
  • writing paper and binder with a copy of your ship specific  Sailor's Handbook
  • Your SALTS Log Book if you've sailed before


MEDICATIONS must be in the original packaging with the dosage and administration instructions. Due to the risk of spillage or loss, please bring double the necessary quantity of prescription medications divided in two separate zip seal storage bags labelled with your full name.


RECOMMENDED

  • reading material (not electronic)
  • sunglasses
  • sketch pad/journal
  • camera
  • small day pack for shore excursions
  • musical instrument (check with the SALTS office before bringing a large instrument, i.e. guitar).
  • cash to buy SALTS merch near the end of the trip

WHAT NOT TO BRING

  • electronic devices, iPods, mp3 players, e-readers
  • chewing gum
  • smoking or vaping implements, including for tobacco, cannabis or e-cigarettes
  • alcohol, illicit drugs or any intoxicating substance
  • valuable jewelry

IMPORTANT NOTICE

CELL PHONES may only be used prior to boarding and after disembarking. While on board ONLY the camera may be used if you don't have a dedicated camera. 

A NO SMOKING policy will be in effect both on the ship and during shore excursions. Please be aware that smoking of any substance (including vaping) will NOT be permitted from the time you board until the time you disembark at the end of the trip. Infractions of this or other policies may lead to dismissal and disembarkation.

IF YOU LEAVE SOMETHING BEHIND

Unmarked “Lost and Found” items will be held at the SALTS office until the end of the season. Shipping items back to you may be arranged with pre-payment of postage.  After September 30th unclaimed items will be donated to a worthy cause.
